Detailed Overview

Key Programme Areas

  • Waste Segregation and Responsible Waste Management: Encouraging households and programme centres to segregate waste at source, build sustainable waste disposal habits and reduce the amount of waste entering landfills and the surrounding environment.
  • Youth-Led Environmental Advocacy: Empowering children in Aya Nagar to engage in dialogue with their local Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) and municipal councillor on sanitation, waste management and local environmental concerns. This initiative encourages civic participation and helps young people understand their role in shaping cleaner, healthier communities.
  • Plastic Waste and Agricultural Waste Recycling: In Gonda and Basti, Uttar Pradesh, promoting the collection and recycling of plastic and agricultural waste to reduce environmental pollution and encourage more sustainable resource management.
  • Water Body Cleaning and Environmental Restoration: Supporting community efforts to clean local water bodies, address waste-related pollution and improve the surrounding environment.
  • Community Awareness and Environmental Education: Engaging trainees, parents and local residents in practical environmental initiatives that encourage responsible consumption, waste reduction, recycling and collective responsibility for the environment.

By combining waste segregation, recycling, environmental restoration and youth-led civic engagement, Jan Madhyam is helping communities translate environmental awareness into meaningful action. The initiative nurtures a culture of sustainability in which children and families are not merely beneficiaries of change, but active contributors to a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally responsible future.
